Dear Parents, Guardians and Students/Annwyl Rhieni, Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr
In a week where our school roofs were one of the unsung heroes (in the main) and we weathered everything that Storm Bert had to throw at us, there was no stopping our students from getting out and about as well as getting busy back at the ranch. We bring you a round up from one capital city to another.
Matilda or Wicked? Which is your favourite?
Last week, some of our GCSE and A Level Drama students ventured to London for two days to experience what the West End has to offer. They enjoyed watching the very cheeky Matilda and the magic of Wicked, as well as visiting the Natural History Museum. Mr Wolverson was probably the most excited person on the trip when it came to seeing the dinosaur exhibit!
Students also had the chance to see street performers in Covent Garden, the delights of Leicester Square, and all five floors of M&M world! A great time was had by all! Thank you to Mrs Brown for organising all the excitement!
The West End comes to LHS!
Our Drama students also had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of a West End Workshop at LHS. The professional stage actor, Elliott Evans, came in to teach the choreography from the stage version of Back To The Future.
Elliott played the role of Marty McFly in the London theatre adaptation of the hit film and the students loved creating their own rendition. After the dancing, a question and answer took place which gave an insight into the industry that many of our students want to venture in to!
The power of the English Language
On Thursday 21st November Mrs Hazeltine-Rees took 15 AS Level English Language students to Cardiff Crown Court as part of their study of Language and Power and Occupational Language.
They had a fascinating tour from a court clerk, spoke to a judge and learned about legal roles, processes and Language. They then sat in on many different live trials to observe language in use. The students (and Mrs Hazeltine-Rees) found it fascinating and there will be lots to discuss next lesson!
Don’t wait till January – get your fitness vibes going now!
Next, an invitation for the mind and body. Calling all LHS athletes to try out to compete for Llanishen High School in the Cardiff Schools SPORTSHALL championships in January-February 2025.

November collection for the Cardiff Foodbank
Many thanks to the Year 12 LDP group for their excellent contributions and organisation at our November collection. The donations totalled 28.5kgs and will help support 13 local people this winter. The staff at the foodbank conveyed their thanks for the continued donations received. Apparently, the monthly collection that we support the Rotary Club of Llanishen with makes our team effort the single most donator on a regular basis.
Learning Support ‘Star of the Week’
This week we have no less than three stars! Congratulations to Isam in Year 8, Osian in Year 9 and Sabah in Year 8. All students have worked incredibly hard this week and have showed excellent independent skills.
An appeal for tiles!
Before we sign off this week, we would like to launch an appeal for any member of staff or parent/guardian to donate any leftover ceramic tiles you may have. It doesn’t’ matter what colour or size they are, or how many or how few there are. Whether you started a home improvement project in lockdown or you are a master builder, we would be grateful for any donations for our Key Stage 4 Construction groups.
If you can help us, please contact our DT Technician, Mr Darren Hustin, on:
darren.hustin@llanishen.cardiff.sch.uk
We can also collect!
Here is a flavour of the tiling in action in Construction this week!
Before we sign off, we can share the good news that the PE Movember stint is nearly complete! They will be clean shaven again on Sunday!
This has been such an important issue to shine a light on through assemblies and through the very visible facial hair of the staff who have taken part. If you would like to support Movember by making a donation, the link is below.
Donate to Team LHS MovemberThe staff weren’t the only ones ‘heralding’ the cause (I’m so sorry – I’ll stick to the day job). This month, Jack Herald from Year 12 has taken part in Movember for the first time which. He has raised £230 so far with what he describes as his ‘lacklustre moustache.’ But we are very proud of you Jack and you are catching Mr Emanuel up! Here is the link:
Jack's Donation LinkWell done everyone! We look forward to bringing you more news and updates next week.
Enjoy the weekend and we look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Tuesday 3rd December.
Thank you for reading/Diolch am ddarllen,
