Dear Parents, Guardians and Students/Annwyl Rhieni, Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr

LHS Alumni Olympic success in Paris!

I couldn’t launch the mid-summer blog without paying tribute to our amazing LHS alumni Olympians whose luggage will weigh so much more on the way back from Paris than it did on the way over…

Because those medals are heavy!!!!!!!!!

We are in absolute awe of their achievements. Here are the four awesome Olympians at the closing ceremony. We could not be prouder. And we cannot wait to welcome you all back to LHS to further inspire the next generation.

Congratulations to Elinor Barker, Megan Barker, Anna Morris and Jeremiah Azu – what a group!

It was also an incredible Olympic games for Elinor Barker and it takes your breath away to comprehend just what she has achieved. She is now the most successful Welsh female Olympian in history with four medals.

What an inspiration to our school community. Here’s Elinor making history, as well as celebrating with her Welsh cycling sisterhood!

These photographs of Jeremiah pre and post race are just superb, capturing the focus and then the joy of the achievement.

We weren’t the only ones who noticed just how many medals the LHS alumni clocked up!

Olympic Games 2024: A Games to remember for Llanishen High – BBC Sport

We cannot wait to see them to congratulate them in person. Maybe even hold a medal?!

Congratulations to them all and much love to their families and support networks for the immeasurable amount of graft that sits behind these achievements.

One thing each of these alumni Olympians has in common is that each and every one of them attended August results days to collect their envelopes. So they know exactly how Year 12 and 13 were feeling as the alarm went off this morning!

Congratulations to all of our Sixth Form students on a triumphant day!

This morning, it was an absolute joy to welcome our Sixth Form students and family members into school to celebrate a range of incredible achievements. Their determination, hard work and resilience has prevailed. Every cohort is unique in nature, and the Year 13 class of 2024 are no exception. Over their time at LHS they have dazzled us with their musical and creative talents and amazed us with their approach to their studies.

Please join me in celebrating and congratulating each individual. We are extremely proud of their achievements in the full range of AS, A2 and BTEC level 3 qualifications.

As we constantly reiterate, success doesn’t look the same for everyone, and we believe it’s vital to acknowledge and appreciate that all of our students have unique aspirations. Today’s results reflect that, and we wish our students the very best of luck in their next steps – we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.

Outcomes in all pathways are very strong, allowing students access to worthwhile vocations, career entry and university places. Many students have successfully secured places at a range of universities to pursue a wide range of degree courses.

Within the outcomes today, 28% of all grades were achieved at A* – A, 50% of all grades were achieved at A* – B, 77% of all grades were achieved at A* – C and 20% of students achieved at least 3 A* grades.

There are huge successes across the board that will see our students moving onto a wide range of courses and apprenticeships and we are absolutely delighted for them all. We have students going to Loughborough to do Sport and Exercise Science, University of Coventry to do Professional Policing, Birmingham to do Physiotherapy Cardiff and Swansea for Nursing and so much more. Other courses include Audio and Music technology, Journalism, Computer Games Design Development, Pharmacology and Optometry.

Here is a snapshot of some of our stories that we’ve captured in words and pictures this morning! They show the great diversity of onward journeys….

Oxbridge bound…

Huge congratulations go to our Head Girl, Katie Gill who achieved 4 A*’s and an A to secure her place at Trinity College, Oxford to study Economics and Management. Katie will bring creative flair to the world of economics!

Also, to Isaac Simin who breezed the 4 A* grades required to read English Literature at Cambridge (with full UMS in Chaucer and full UMS in all three of his Philosophy papers!) We have rarely witnessed someone open exam results of this calibre with such calm composure! In Isaac’s words;

”I am very very very happy! I’m so pleased that the sheer hard work, coupled with the amazing support of all of my amazing teachers, has paid off”  A simple but true message.

Headed to Durham University in 2025 are Aine Morris and Fin Payne. Aine will studying Politics and International Relations and Fin will be taking on Philosophy! An invincible pair that have achieved no less than 7 A* and A grades between them!

Congratulations to Elizabeth Andrews who has her place to study Paramedic Science at Bristol UWE, to Tom Bavey (Head Boy) who will be studying Law at the University of York, to Jaafer El Kaddu on his place to study Medicine at Cardiff, to Salma Abdillah who will be studying Accounting and Finance at Cardiff University, to Harry Paget who will be studying Mathematics at Bristol University and to Bethan Harrison who will be studying Fashion Marketing at the University of the Arts in London.  That gives us a flavour of the diverse onward journeys!

Well done to all of the students that we managed to collar for a photograph this morning, and well done to all of those who escaped our clutches!!

These stories scratch the surface of the varying destinations that Year 13 are headed in. We will miss you dearly and hope that you will keep in touch.

AS….

It was also great to see so many students from Year 12 this morning. The step up from GCSE to AS level is not an easy one. As we always say, this is your half-way pit stop! A chance to pause for breath, take stock and think about what you want to achieve in your final year of school. We commend you on your Year 12 journey.

I would also like to extend my thanks to our teachers, support staff and examinations officer for the huge amount of work that has been undertaken throughout the year to ensure that our students achieve the qualifications to enable them to progress to the next stage of their lives in education or employment.

Last, but definitely not least, parents and family members who have supported, nudged, and walked that fine balance of supporting these young people through the last 13 years deserve reward too. Where would they be without you?! We will now take a brief pause to gather our energy in preparation to do it all again next week for our wonderful Year 11 and Year 10 student… the wait is nearly over for you folks.

Thank you for reading/Diolch am ddarllen,
