Dear Parents, Guardians and Students/Annwyl Rhieni, Gwarchodwyr a Myfyrwyr
A night to remember…
This year, the LHS Christmas Concert will be held over two consecutive nights on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th December.
The timings are 6:00 – 8.30pm each night in the West Wing Hall, with festive refreshments on offer.
This year we are going to be selling tickets at a cost of £4 per person with the proceeds going towards funding instrument lessons for some of our Year 7 learners. Don’t delay, log on to Parentpay today to secure your ticket!
If you want a sneak peak that won’t give anything away yet, here’s a snapshot of the rehearsals in full swing. It promises to be a very energetic event! The Christmas Concert features Year 7 through to Year 13 and will be the first opportunity for Year 7 to show us their creative flair!
A celebration of student leadership
Whilst some of the school community were rehearsing in the most inclusive of spaces, this week also afforded us the opportunity to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The focus this year was on the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.
It is an opportunity to remind ourselves that not all disabilities are visible.
People face challenges that aren’t always apparent, and it’s important to remember and celebrate the diverse strengths of each individual. Like Tyler Dean, one of our Sixth Form students and a member of our Hearing-Impaired Department.
Tyler has taken on numerous leadership roles throughout his time with us, demonstrating that nothing will stop him from fulfilling his potential, as well as helping others to succeed. Larger-than-life, he supports the PE department by coaching the Year 8 rugby team and guiding Year 11 students in weightlifting in our gym and conditioning suite – as part of his WBQ Leadership Development Project.
Tyler also plays for the Wales Deaf Rugby Team – where does he find the time? Sheer determination. By listening to different voices, we can build a more inclusive and equitable school, where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and shape their own future. Thank you for the example you set Tyler!
Friendship, teamwork and Cheer success!
Next, we are delighted to congratulate Emma Brotherton, Bella Hislop and Sophie Baines from Year 12. The girls attended their first international Cheer competition in Disneyland Paris last weekend. They came 2nd in the under 18, level 2 category, scoring one of their highest scores ever achieved!
Their score has gained them a bid to compete in The Summit Championship in Florida next year. The competition provides a unique experience for athletes to compete against the best of the best in all levels of competition across the globe.
They have been working towards a bid like this since they started Cheer together at 9 years old. We are so proud to hear that their dedication, teamwork and strong bond is now taking them stateside! Superb effort girls.
More success for our girls!
Mrs Birch-Hurst is so proud of her amazing girls that played exceptionally in the Cardiff City Foundation Utility Cup tournament on the 15th November. Year 8 won every one of their 11 games and will go forward to play in Bristol against English teams in the new year.
The Year 7 team only lost one game against our Year 8s and gained second place, all receiving medals. Good luck girls and very well done!!!
The Year 7 team included;

Finally, it’s officially Christmas in Llanishen Village on Friday 6th December! It would be lovely to see as many staff, students, parents and community partners in the village on Friday evening.
The LHS choir will be in good form on the stage for the switching on of the Christmas tree lights from 6:30 – 7:00pm.
Following this, they will be singing in St Isan’s Church from 7 – 8 pm. It is an open invitation for anyone to step in to enjoy their performances.
Well done everyone! We look forward to bringing you more news and updates next week.
