Key Stage 5 (Years 12 & 13) school curriculum consists of:

• A broad range of courses leading to external qualifications
• Students follow the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification
• GCSE re-sit classes are available in Mathematics and English Language
• The courses best suited to a student are decided after careful consultation with both students and parents following an analysis of GCSE examination results

For entry into Sixth Form, students must achieve a minimum of five Level 2 passes, although many subjects require at least a B Grade at GCSE level.

Over recent years, our Sixth Form has expanded considerably and projected numbers for the next academic year suggests a population in excess of 270. The majority of students transfer from our own Year 11 but we also extend a warm welcome to students from other schools.

Choosing to go to university and which one to apply to is a very exciting and important decision for a Year 12 student. At the start of Year 12 students are allocated to a personal tutor who will support students with advice, give feedback on the personal statement and write the school reference. They use the platform Unifrog to conduct research on future pathways. In the spring term of Year 12 we hold a higher education day during which students are guided through the application process on the UCAS website, given advice on how to choose universities and courses, and they have a personal statement workshop. Mrs Hornblow, Head of Sixth Form, meets every student in Year 13 individually to quality assure their UCAS application and advise on suitable pathways.

Ensuring students attend school dressed smartly in school uniform is the foundation for high standards in other aspects of school life, including a positive work ethic and conduct in and around school. We thank Parents/carers in advance for actively supporting our school uniform expectations.
Sixth Form students are required to comply with a dress/appearance code.

Top half garments

Sixth form students must wear ‘top half’ garments bearing the LHS school logo. These identify them as members of the school community and promote a sense of identity.

Students can select from a range of top half garments which include a t-shirt and a sweatshirt. Students are not permitted to wear any top half garments which do not display the school logo. Other garments, including ‘hoodies’ are not permitted.

Bottom half garments

Students are permitted to wear any suitable ‘bottom half’ garment including jeans, trousers or a skirt. Shorts may be worn in the summer term. It is important that Year 12 and 13 students set an example and are appropriately attired at all times.

The following are not acceptable:

• Ripped or scruffy jeans
• Short shorts
• Short skirts (thick tights must be worn with skirts that are shorter than knee length)
• Hats worn indoors
• Offensive slogans of any description
• High heels/flip flops

Our proactive Student Leadership Team provide a bridge between students, Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and staff. They sit on the governing body and recruitment panels. They act as ambassadors for the school in a range of ways. They participate in our student Charity group as well as our group that leads on Culture and Ethos.

They support the school in ensuring that the voices of all our students are heard.
